Gingered Beef
750 g/11/2 lb rump, boneless sirloin or good
blade steak, trimmed of fat and cut
4 cm/11/2 inches thick
120 nil/4 fl oz soy sauce
2 tablespoons polyunsaturated vegetable oil
3 tablespoons honey
1 clove garlic, peeled and crushed
1 tablespoon grated root ginger
Slice the meat across the grain into 5 nun/%4 inch strips and place in a bowl. Mix the remaining ingredients and pour over, turning to coat evenly. Marinate for 1 hour, turning the meat frequently.
Remove the meat strips from the marinade and thread on to skewers, concertina or 'snake' fashion. Cook under a very hot grill for about 3 minutes, turning once and brushing with the marinade. The meat should be rare on the inside. SERVES 4 to 6
